It’s been several weeks since we have had an episode of Pure Indulgence on Radio Dentata and due to the latest server crash/hack attempt, shows got lost. Thankfully I had the master copies so once I figure out what’s what, we’ll be uploading and playing again. I think though in light of my normal workload we might go to a once a month format.
Maybe twice a month, who knows.
I wanted to update the readers of this blog though. On an upcoming show we DO discover one of the tenets to The Pure Indulgence lifestyle. So stick around to Radio Dentata for that announcement!
I haven’t focused too much on wine lately here at Pure Indulgence. Sure we’re drinking plenty of it but it’s not been up to par. Plus, if you’ve caught any of the shows, you’ve heard me talk about setting a standard for Pure Indulgence. Developing a standard for which there isn’t an easy definition of in my head has been the main issue and goal here.
That being said, the wine we’ve had of late hasn’t been up to par. I mean it’s been drinkable but the lots Grocery Outlet has picked up weren’t all that stellar until recently.
I’m pleased to tout the goodness of Redhead Ranch though. Sadly I don’t have notes but if you’re going to Grocery Outlet, be sure to pick them up. They hold the candle right now. Nothing stellar but they are a good start for a wine that normally sells for above $15 a bottle that we pick up for $4.99. Out of Paso Robles, we get some pretty good wine. The 2005 Zinfandel was especially nice.
We’re slowly changing things around here as promised at the first of this year. Slowly, adding different dimensions to the blog as we rotate through what it means to enjoy the true essence of Pure Indulgence.
The other update is that my email posts aren’t showing up as they should. The last update I had from @UrWineGuy from Twitter should have been more than a PDF. Alas, Google is being a pain in the ass and won’t let me access it right now to repost. But I will be remaining more active. Plus Pure Indulgence is going to get a facebook fan page soon. Since I CAN use the facebook app for my pixi, I’ll be doing that more often as I attend events and tweet from them too.
It’s been awhile since I’ve posted my thoughts on wine and that’s been due sadly to drinking what I hoped were great buys but turned out to be less than mediocre. Many of the wines we’ve picked up have been deals at those prices but lacked flavor and that “thing” wines have that separate great wines from the rest. It’s not been for lack of trying.
I’d say we probably went through four or five cases of various wines purchased mostly from Grocery Outlet and they were good. But nothing had that “pop” that makes me want to include them for Pure Indulgence. Even the more current wines were less than stellar.
The challenge here is going to be finding those spectacular gems in a lot full of coal. It’s doable but it takes time. In the meantime, we’re going to feature more producers.
I’d LIKE to get an interview with Craig of Cornerstone Cellars out of Napa as we have reviewed his wines and even the lower end wines such as Stepping Stone line are examples of wines that have been crafted with care. The higher wines from this producer are good examples of why Napa Valley is a front runner in wine making and why Napa is on the map.
I’m aiming to bring more wine reviews to the site, along with podcasts for Pure Indulgence where we spend time sampling, talking about the wine making process and educating you, the reader/listener on the joys of the Pure Indulgence lifestyle.
News to many of you, I’ve decided to make Pure Indulgence a part of my career in hopes that the Lifestyle will become just that.
We’ve been lax in recording new shows due to my appearance at DragonCon 2010 where I was a panelist for one of the late night adult panels. Fun thing that, in the middle of our panel, the folks next door came over and offered us free homemade brew. The dark colored fuller bodied stout had flavor, personality and character but alas, I did not get to try much more than a tiny cup full.
Wine was not involved though I had plenty of scotch on hand and made sure to pack my humidor with plenty of Tatuaje Havana VI’s. Glad I did. Brought my pipe too and was joined on occasion by other pipe and cigar smokers. Nice to know that Atlanta isn’t a restrictive place nor are there noises being made to start that path.
During future episodes of Pure Indulgence, we’ll review Jason Stephens 2006 Syrah and talk about Rescue Ink. Did any of you read the latest issue of Smoke Magazine featuring these cigar smoking, animal saving ruffians? I’m hoping to get them on the show soon and talk smokes and booze. Stay tuned!
Pure Indulgence airs Fridays at 4 PM PST and again Sundays at 5 PM PST on Radio Dentata
As you’ve been with me for awhile now, you know what this blog is about. Now you get to hear me once a week talk about cigars and wine on Radio Dentata
I am Sascha Illyvich, host of Pure Indulgence. We’re dedicated to empowering those who wish to embark upon the Good Life known as fine wine and cigars. Our show will focus on education at first, talking about basics of wine/spirits and cigars before getting into the nitty gritty of why we smoke/drink and how to maximize pleasure from The Good Life.
Pure Indulgence started out by pure annoyance as some of my erotic romance author friends, my producer kept asking me to expand in this direction. When my publicist suggested I do a show or write a blog on it, I told her I’d toy with the idea until my long time publisher Jean Marie Stine of Renaissance E-books fame (and ownership) told me one night I should do the show. So here it is; a weekly half hour show to simplify the daunting world of wine and cigars.
