Millennium Winemaker’s Dinner

A Gluten-Free Vegetarian Winemaker’s Dinner

Millennium Restaurant, San Francisco, Tuesday March 29, 2011 6:30 PM

We’re honored and thrilled for the opportunity to pair our wines with some of the most exciting food in the Bay Area! Chef Eric Tucker is preparing an exquisite five course gluten-free vegetarian meal matched to Urban Legend Cellars wines. He’s absolutely a wizard with flavor; eating your veggies never tasted so good.

As anyone who’s had a bottle of ironworks knows, we’re not fans of buzzword bingo. Ignore the "gluten-free", "sustainable", "organic", "vegan", and "vegetarian" monikers if you like; this will just be an exquisite meal with great wines.

The Tax man takes awayNo Tax Release Day

April 15th or 16th
Location TBD

Ok, we’re still working out the details on this, but our 2011 Riesling, 2011 Tocai Friulano, 2011 Rosato di Barbera (yes, it’s back!), and 2011 Sauvignon Blanc will all be ready to make their debut. We thought we’d help everyone through this most dreaded of financial days by covering the sales tax on purchases of our new releases.

Rose BottlingSo, we’re either going to do this on Friday evening, April 15th at the winery, or if we can get the details worked out, we’ll have this event at a local restaurant on Saturday afternoon, April 16th. Stay tuned for more details. It’ll be a great way to de-stress from tax day either way.

Grower David Weiss of Bella Vista Farming Company (Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Nebbiolo) will be on-hand to chat and answer questions about his vineyards, fruit, and farming philosophy. David is a real gem; we’re extremely privileged to work with him.

2011 Barbera Festival June 12th

2011 Barbera Festival

June 11th, 2011 11 AM – 4 PM
Cooper Ranch, Plymouth

Shenandoah Valley, Amador County

In case you haven’t noticed, we’re big fans of Barbera. It was, after all, the first grape we selected on turning pro in 2008. When we caught rumor of this festival, we had to be one of the first to sign up. We’ll be there with both our Cooper Ranch (Amador County) and Holland Landing (Clarksburg) Barbera. Join us and more than 80 other wineries in celebrating this versatile, delicious, but under-sung variety.

You go, girl!

Bottling volunteers in the rain

We Have the Best Friends!

Thank you, bottling volunteers; you got it done!

Frequently, our friends and customers offer to help out at the winery. We’re reluctant to take advantage of them because winery work can be really hard. (We keep waiting for the glamour, but it hasn’t shown up much yet.)

Bottling day, however, is another story. It’s a day where we need 15 or so people who are willing to do what seems like dozens of silly tasks–dumping bottles out of boxes just SO, dropping capsules, packing filled bottles back in cases, and so on. It’s steady, demanding, and, oh, by the way, done outside on the street in a trailer.

So, when you realize that not only did you get a crew to arrive on one of the coldest and wettest days this winter and that many of them had worked your bottling line before (so, in principle, they should know better), it’s an incredible gift.

All we can say is, "thank you–you’re incredible."
